Inmates Angry That Warden Hid the Sausage

Inmates at the Lea County Detention Facility in Hobbs, NM started a borderline riot on Tuesday after being told that henceforth they would be limited to a single serving of sausage with their dinner. The inmates, about 33 of them, set fires, broke toilets, and smashed windows before they were locked down for the night.

Dudes in prison starting a riot over sausage. Yeah, that one is just too easy.

I'd riot over bacon.

The important question is, are they brown and serve sausages or are they REAL sausage links. No way i'd riot over the former, but the latter (or is is later?). Mmmm, sausage.

That said, how are they supposed to have their "toad in the hole" with only one sausage.

oops, i went "there"

I don't know what that phrase means. And if I don't know what it means, that means that it most likely crosses the line. I didn't even know I had a line until just this minute.

Somehow I don't think this is what Scott was referring to, but still:

Toad in the Hole

1 pound breakfast sausage links
¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 eggs

Cut sausages in half.
Place sausages in COLD oven.
Turn the oven on to 450°.
Combine flour and salt in a bowl
While the oven is heating, beat together the eggs and milk in a separate bowl. Add this mixture to the flour and salt and beat well with a fork.
When oven reaches 450°, remove the dish from the oven. Pour off 1 tablespoon of fat and turn the sausages over with a fork.
Pour the batter over the sausages while sausages and pan are still hot.
Return pan to oven.
Reduce oven temperature to 425° and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. The batter will buff up, and be brown and crispy.
Serve at once.

Oh. Sort of like pigs in a blanket, but more like pigs in a bed covered with a blanket?

I once gave up sausage (and beef) for Lent. After 40 days I put down a dozen links on Easter morning...I did not make it through the service. If the prison wants to avoid 33 backed up toilets, they better get some pork enzymes in those inmates STAT!
